GUEST POST
Tell more about how you use advocacy for various causes in your books.
In 2025, my company celebrated fifteen years as an independent book publisher of coloring
books, puzzle books, and quote books. Over the years, we have supported sustainability
organizations that focus on beaches, birds, and wildlife with revenue from our book sales,
including:
For more than five years, we served as a small business partner with the National Forest
Foundation and helped to plant more than 6,500 trees in U.S. National Forests.
Best known for their work to protect elephants, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the
most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. They embrace
all measures that complement the conservation, preservation and protection of wildlife including
anti-poaching, safe guarding the natural environment, enhancing community awareness and
providing veterinary assistance to animals in need. SWT offers the opportunity to connect with
animals via annual adoptions of rescued elephants, giraffes, and rhinos. Over the years, we have
adopted elephants, rhinos, and giraffes–Maxwell the blind rhino is a favorite.
Currently, we support the work of SEE Turtles as a Business Sponsor. They are a sponsor of Sea
Turtle Week from June 8-June 16.
The scope of their work is wide ranging—from helping to protect turtle nesting beaches,
cleaning plastic from turtle habitats to working to end the tortoise shell trade, organizing
conservation trips, and more. They also help students and teachers learn about sea turtles with
numerous classroom resources.
Sea Turtle Week is June 8-16. SEE Turtles sponsors this event each year with events from beach
and ocean clean clean-ups.
Other organizations that we support include:
Coastal Discovery Museum
Founded in 1985, the Coastal Discovery Museum operated at two previous locations before
making made a giant leap forward in the Fall 2007 when it opened the facility at Honey Horn – a
“Town of Hilton Head Island” property that’s home to several of Hilton Head Island’s oldest
certified buildings. Since relocating, the Museum has expanded its offerings, doubled the number
of students in education programs, and hosted dozens of special events and festivals annually.
In 2015 the Coastal Discovery Museum was officially recognized as a Smithsonian Affiliate
joining 200 institutions around the country. Building on this recognition, Museum staff and board
members have conducted strategic planning operations in recent years to establish and direct
what will be the Coastal Discovery Museum’s impact, activities, and goals for the projected
future, and measures to assure its ongoing presence in the Hilton Head community.
Outer Banks Forever
Outer Banks Forever is a branch of Eastern National, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that
promotes the public’s understanding and support of America’s national parks and other public
trust partners by providing quality educational experiences, products, and services.
They offer adopt-a-nest and adopt-a pony programs
Sea Turtle Conservancy
The Sea Turtle Conservancy is the world’s oldest sea turtle research and conservation group. An
international nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization, Sea Turtle Conservancy was founded in 1959 by
world-renowned sea turtle expert Dr. Archie Carr to save sea turtles from imminent extinction
through rigorous science-based conservation.
Headquartered in Florida, the organization carries out worldwide programs to conserve and
recover sea turtle populations through research, education, advocacy and protection of the natural
habitats upon which they depend. Over the course of over 60 years, Sea Turtle Conservancy’s
research programs have yielded much of what is now known about sea turtles and the threats
they face, and the organization is applying this knowledge to carry out the world’s most
successful sea turtle protection and recovery programs. They offer a year-round adopt-a-nest
program.
South Carolina Aquarium
The South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Care Center™ aids sick and injured sea turtles in
partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). Through virtual
programs, outreach and an interactive guest experience (included with Aquarium admission),
they aim to teach everyone how to conserve and protect sea turtles.
When a sea turtle is found sick or injured, SCDNR is the first to respond. With a network of
dedicated, permitted volunteers across the coast, each stranded sea turtle is taken into caring
hands to be transported to the Aquarium at a moment’s notice. These sea turtles may suffer from
debilitated turtle syndrome, predation and boat strike wounds, entanglement in marine debris,
accidental interactions with fishermen and even exposure to dangerously low temperatures.
The Turtle Hospital
The Turtle Hospital opened its doors in 1986 with four main goals: 1) Rehab injured sea turtles
and release them back to their natural habitat. 2) Educate the public by visiting local schools and
attending outreach programs. 3) Conducting and assisting with research aiding sea turtles (in
collaboration with state universities). 4) Working toward environmental legislation making the
beaches and water safe for sea turtles.
The Turtle Hospital (Hidden Harbor Marine Environmental Project, INC.) is a 501 (c)3
charitable corporation. The Hidden Harbor Motel provides buildings and space needed to house
and care for the sea turtles. The Turtle Hospital offers Guided Educational Programs to the public
7 days-a-week. They offer numerous ways to help from adopting sea turtles, donations, and
memberships.
The Turtle Hospital contains up-to-date equipment needed to perform a variety of surgeries on
different species of sea turtles. More than half of our equipment has been donated by local
hospitals, doctors, and environmentally-friendly organizations and individuals.
From Aquariums and Associations to Conservation Groups and Rescue Organizations, there are
many ways to learn and enjoy sea creatures and many choices on how to be your own advocate.
